Cowlitz Casino
The proposed Cowlitz Casino is a huge project will be built in phases over several years, starting with the
Casino which is now said to be at 160,000 square feet. All of this is
subject to an environmental impact study supervised by the U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs.
The U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs will hire a consultant to do the study, which will cost about $1 million and be funded by the tribe.
A public meeting is being planned in December to identify issues the environmental study should address.
The Cowlitz Indian Tribe has indicated that it will include a hotel/restaurant, convention center, retail complex and tribal cultural center.
Additional construction will include:
- A 250-room hotel.
- A parking garage for 8,500 vehicles and an RV park for 200 recreational vehicles.
- Convention and entertainment buildings up to 150,000 square feet.
- Tribal government offices, a tribal cultural center and about 10 to 25 tribal housing units used mostly by tribal elders.
